I believe one of the biggest and most challenging teachers we have is attachment, being attached is feeling safe that everything is ours, nevertheless, if we really understand that in the moment we leave this earth, we’ll take nothing with us.
Why we get attached? It’s simple, we’re attached because we believe that the others and the outside define us, and we think that the more we have, the better we are because life has the wrong projection, ‘If I have then I am.’
For me, there are two types of attachment: the material and the emotional.
Material Attachment: I’ve told you that we are part of an earthly experience, which deserves to be lived fully and in an abundant way, but what happens when having becomes being and we start to define ourselves by what we have? It’s because we’re living attached to something that’s just part of a moment, remember that the fact of having today doesn’t mean we’ll transcend with it. Having doesn’t make us better or worse person, much less defines us; remember all of us have the same capacity of abundance and the Universe, God or energy are always in movement, this means that the rotation of life is such, that everything we have today tomorrow can be transformed into nothing, and the only thing we’ll have in the end is ourselves.
Emotional attachment: In my experience this is the most painful kind of attachment, because it impacts to our emotional consciousness and when we feel our emotions are being attacked the first we do is block them, because we have the education of not to feel, just to think, so that way there can’t be a pain that torments us everyday, and it torments us because forgetting requires remembering and remember brings us back to the moment of the loss and that’s the aim of emotional attachment, return us back to that precise instant when that feeling got attached to us, so we can finally accept and understand what this experience came to teach us, that saying goodbye is also growing.
We must understand that nothing and nobody belong to us, and we’ll be able to give that maximum love to ourselves and in that way, we’ll start to love and honor the freedom of others understanding that everyone can leave when they decide, and we are capable to move forward without any permission.
The world is full of suffering,
and the root of suffering is the attachment to things.
Buddha.
When I talked about pain, I said that I couldn’t visualize a life without it, because pain represents growth and as a humans we came to experience that; when I talked to you about relations I told you when we experience separation, something emerges within us, something that I call: “the more pain, the more creation you make” this means, when something confront us in a magical way, brings us back to ourselves and allow us to get back to the unity we are and that can be found inside us.
It’s ironical, because when we manage to see beyond everything, we’ll see that attachment brings detachment because when something ends, we see ourselves in the obligation of giving up to that feeling because we realize that we remain attached to something that no longer exists and became invisible, hence, we are already detached but we need to be ready to see it and blindingly start trusting that letting go what’s no longer there, will bring everything that corresponds to us.
Unfortunately we have the bad habit of walking in life with a suitcase full of pendings, worries, sick emotions and we believe that the most heavy life is, the more we achieve, that’s a total lie, because many times it’s about walking light without learning, anything just unlearn all, because what really matters, is the experience per se.
Remember that happiness, self-love, self-understanding, self-trust, self-confidence, self-value aren’t feelings or emotions that must be conditioned, much less look at them as life goals, and it’s a gigantic irresponsability from us to rely on others our own concept and giving them our self-love, believing that it will be the best investment, when surely will have terrible losses and the few profits will be bitter and unnecessary… just have in mind everyday of your life that those longings, are states that are chosen by our own willingness, the same that lives within each one of us.
Live within you,
